Axle work covers straightening or replacing the beam your wheels ride on: measuring the old axle (capacity, track width, spring seat spacing, spindle size), sourcing the right replacement, and swapping it with new U-bolts and hardware. It includes spindle damage from bearing failures that got driven on too long, upgrading undersized axles that a previous owner fitted, and converting between spring and torsion setups when it makes sense.
The axle carries everything. A bent axle scrubs tires bald in a few hundred miles, a rusted one can snap under load, and a worn spindle will destroy every new bearing you put on it. Getting the replacement sized right matters just as much as the swap itself; an axle rated below your loaded weight is a failure waiting for a pothole. We measure and match capacity, width, and spindle spec so the new axle actually fits your trailer and your load.
Replace the axle when tires wear on one edge no matter how you rotate them, when the trailer dog-tracks behind the tow vehicle, when you can see the axle tube visibly sagging or heavily rusted, or after any bearing failure that welded itself to the spindle. If one axle on a tandem is bad, have the second one checked while we're under there; they've lived the same life.
