More trailer trips end on the shoulder from tires than any other cause except bearings. Florida sun cooks sidewalls, trailers sit for months holding full weight in one spot, and a tire that looks fine can be six years past its service life with cracking you'd only see up close. A blowout at 65 mph on a tandem is manageable; on a single-axle it can take the fender, the wiring, and your afternoon with it. Load range matters too; tires rated under the trailer's loaded weight run hot and fail early.
Replace trailer tires every 5–6 years regardless of tread, sooner if you see sidewall cracking, bulges, or uneven wear (which usually means an axle or suspension issue worth checking at the same time). Before any long tow, especially down to the Keys in summer heat, check pressures cold and look at the date codes. And keep our number handy for the blowouts that happen anyway.
