In South Florida a boat trailer works in the worst environment a piece of steel can live in. Every launch dunks hot hubs into saltwater, which pulls moisture past the seals and starts rusting the bearings the same day. Springs, brake lines, and hardware corrode from the outside at the same time. A trailer that isn't maintained will eventually pick the worst possible moment to fail, usually loaded, on a Saturday, halfway to the ramp. Keeping it repaired is cheaper than replacing a trailer and a lot cheaper than dropping a boat on the highway.
Call when you see rust streaks from the hubs, feel heat coming off a wheel after a short tow, hear squealing or grinding, notice a tire wearing unevenly, or find soft or rotted bunk boards. And if the trailer has sat for a year or more, have it gone through before the first trip of the season, not after the first breakdown.
